Costruito verso la fine dell’800 si tratta di una ricca residenza nobiliare immersa nell’affascinante campagna del Ragusano, tra gli uliveti che si estendono per chilometri fino ad arrivare al mare.
The Castle of Donnafugata: a refined mansion in Sicily
For those who this summer will go around the south-eastern Sicily recommend you spend an evening at the castle of Donnafugata.
Built towards the end of the 800 is a rich mansion deep in the countryside of Ragusa, among the olive groves that stretch for miles until you get to the sea.
The building has been the subject of many legends, such as the Bianca, Queen of Navarre, who was imprisoned in the palace of Count Bernardo Cabrera, and was chosen as a film set for the movie “The Viceroy” by director Ronerto Faenza and many episodes of fiction “Montalbano” (the terrace).
When I visited the “castle” I witnessed a striking representation in costume, but what struck me most are the interior; it is a sequence of spaces on the main floor of the building with its original furniture of the period, the crystal chandeliers, the walls and ceilings decorated. It is a fine example of rich Sicilian house of the era.
Beautiful the salon with the coats of arms with many noble houses, the hall of mirrors and the bishop’s room.
